One Kingdom,
Many Hands

Many people come to hear about A Different Kind of Kingdom due to our apparel company, but A Different Kind of Kingdom is actually an "umbrella" of multiple projects that all share a common goal of being part of the Kingdom that is not of this world - the Kingdom built on restored personal relationship with the Creator of all things, who calls us to join in on creation work as His children, just like we were originally created for. We believe this Creator is the very definition of love and in alignment with that is 3-in-1: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

What would, or rather, what does A Different Kind of Kingdom look like?

It looks like a place where the greatest is the least: the servant of all. Where the things that were despised by the world are the ones running the show, by service, not by bossing around. Where the old is put away and the new has come and continues to be renewed each day as we move toward the restoration of all things. Where death is not feared, but conquered.

We make no claims to live this out perfectly or to be the perfect embodiment of that. In fact, let us make it clear that as much as we wish that to be the case, we don't and we're not - not yet. But we're on a mission to get closer to that each day, and for you to be a part of that.

Our Foundation

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory that is far beyond comparison. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal... Now we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this surpassingly great power is from God and not from us."
-(Excerpts from Paul's second letter to the Corinthians)

We believe we are sinners in the hands of a perfect and loving God. We believe He created us in love because He wants us. We ran off, and we admit it. We hurt ourselves and got hurt a lot in that, while we rejected walking with Him in our lives. But He called us back and let us know how despite the wrong things we'd one, He wanted us back in the house, and wouldn't leave us where we were. And here we are now. Still imperfect, but with eyes fixed on eternity, we are being transformed into the royal children we were always intended to be.

We believe our wrongdoings had a cost, a real and serious cost, and that cost was dealt with once and for all in a just manner when God settled the scores through Jesus' perfect life, death, and resurrection, that now mark our own stories too. We now live in life, not death, and we believe we will live forever.

What It Means To Be Working For A Kingdom

Our King was once asked: “Which commandment is the most important of all?” King Jesus replied, “This is the most important: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is One. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”

This means that working in His Kingdom, THE Kingdom, which our organization is simply named after (and could by no means encompass all of), is to be working for something bigger than ourselves. It's to be working to perpetuate that love: the love for our Creator who loved us first, and the love for our neighbor that is intrinsically contagious once we realize how much He loves us.

What that translates to is "Life done differently". We aren't perfect, nor infallible, only God is, but based on a lot of imperfect listening to Him so far, here's what we have come to think that means:
  • Good according to God - God gets to define what is and isn't good. If it goes against His word, it goes against A Different Kind of Kingdom.
  • Good for neighbor - What we do needs to be for the true good of our neighbor, regardless of our personal tastes or interests.
  • Good for planet - We were called to be stewards, and "cultivating the garden" was the first job for humans. What we do now should tend the garden too: it should be constructive and sustainable, creating something bigger than ourselves that leaves things better than we found them.
  • Good for us - It's okay to want to make an honest living and to have a happy life - in fact, we're commanded to do so. But this can only be done if the other pillars are sought after first: if God's love and our requited love for Him rule in our hearts, grow out into our love for neighbor, and into care for the entire creation that He gave us.

Projects Under Our Umbrella

Here are some of our current projects for A Different Kind of Kingdom:
  • Up There! Music - Music always carries a message, and that isn't neutral. The world and its current kingdoms feel hopeless, investing in and worrying about the wrong things, and Up There! strives to remind them about where their hopes should be and about building on the rock.
  • A Different Kind of Kingdom Apparel - Everything we wear points to something both within and beyond ourselves, and so the reason behind our apparel and the way it's made are set apart from the ways of this world.
  • Courtyard Missions Project - ADKK partakes in ministry planting efforts through the Courtyard Missions project, a gospel-centered project that tends to leverage the scripturally-faithful "Book of Common Prayer" to help people personally know their Creator and make Him known.
